St. Mauritius Senior Care Home

At Monastery of St. Mary & Martyr Mercurius, Egypt

Introduction

The monastery has constructed a building at Rabya KM 48, Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road (see map), which will be used for community social services. The building has, among other things, an elevator and other basic infrastructure. The construction phase is almost complete and the building should be ready within two months.

For the project "Senior Care Home", the monastery has provided two complete floors with a total of 16 rooms (10 double rooms + 6 common rooms) and kitchen area. This project is intended to support seniors in particular need of care, who do not have the means to bear the usual costs of a retirement home.

Project Phase 1

For the first phase, we would like to equip and furnish 10 double rooms and the equipment needed for common use .For the second phase, we plan to add another floor with an additional 5 double beds. In this way we can serve up to 30 seniors and reach a reasonable scale for the recurring costs (fixed and variable)

This project aims to provide employment opportunities for more than 20 people and thus ensure the care of 20 families. We need the following labor force:

  • 2 people for food preparation

  • 2 people for cleaning the rooms

  • 1 person for laundry

  • 10 nurses in a total of 3 shifts

  • 10 caregivers in a total of 3 shifts

  • 2 receptionists & administration

  • 1 bookkeeper

Special thanks to St. Mauritius Foundation in Switzerland for their generous donation to support the project first phase.
